History

Adivay is an Agri-Tourism festival focused on rediscovering the rich history, culture, arts, trades and industries of Benguet. It was conceptualized to gather all the tribes of Benguet and come together to share their cultural beliefs and practices. It was also a way of strengthening the tourism industry and allowing the increase of business employment opportunities. The goal was to start with a festival in Baguio and then spread out to the BLIST (Baguio, La Trinidad, Itogon, Sablan and Tuba). It is held every year to continue discovering the ingenuity of the Benguet people, and to continue give inspirations and acknowledgement to those who excel in their own fields of endeavor.

The first Adivay festival was held in February 25 to March 6, 2005. It was born out of the same division as Panagbenga, the famous flower parade of Baguio. Adivay highlights the history, culture, the arts, trade and industry of the people of Benguet. It puts focus on Benguet as a viable tourism destination. WELCOME to ADIVAY – an Ibaloi term for coming together and having fun.

Festival Goal

1. To position Benguet as an Agri-Tourism destination through its various industries;
2. To enhance business oppurtunities through direct marketing of products and the transfer of technology;
3. To encourage the innovation of products and services that may lead to increased employment oppurtunities in Benguet; and
4. To create a tradition that shall be sustained by the Benguet community.
